With the U.S. now reporting a limited number of COVID-19 cases, it’s important that businesses of all sizes and sectors continue to monitor the situation and are as prepared as possible to protect the health of their workers.

The site development work proposed by the Warren County Port Commission demonstrates the Port’s commitment to developing qualified available sites that meet the needs of prospective businesses in the current business environment. Vicksburg, Miss. (January 24, 2020) – The Warren County Port Commission, a partner in the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership, has been approved to receive a Grant from the Mississippi Development Authority for $241,450 to start construction of a road to allow access to Ceres’ largest available site and to support in the rehabilitation of water infrastructure assets.

The funds are provided by the Mississippi Development Authority as part of the Premier Site Development and the Ready Site programs, which the State entity provides to support communities in their efforts to attract more jobs and investments to Mississippi. As decision timelines for companies grow shorter, Vicksburg Warren County understands having sites ready for development is a necessity to remain competitive. Entergy is proud to add three sites in CERES to the growing list of certified sites in our service territory. Entergy Mississippi Certifies Three Sites at Ceres as Project Ready

Vicksburg, Mississippi (January 9) – The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership announced today that Entergy Mississippi has authorized certification of three sites at the CERES Industrial Park as Economic Development Project Ready Sites. The certification is the culmination of months of work done by the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership in coordination with Entergy Mississippi. The work included a comprehensive review, due dilligence, and documentation generation for the three sites, in order to make them ready for prospective manufacturing or industrial projects.

LEADERSHIP VICKSBURG IS COMMITTED TO SHAPING COMMUNITY LEADERS THROUGH A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE OPPORTUNITIES & CHALLENGES IN VICKSBURG & WARREN COUNTY

Participants will complete an intense training retreat, attend eight business and community learning sessions, and will complete a community project.

The overnight retreat blends both indoor and outdoor activities that focus on the development of
team building, leadership, organization, and communication skills – during which participants will build important relationships that will be useful in their professional, civic, and personal endeavors.

Over the next eight months, participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a broad range of community and business leaders.  This year’s training retreat will be at Warner-Tully YMCA Camp in Port Gibson, MS. Go to Application

Vicksburg, Mississippi – (August 6, 2019) – The Vicksburg Warren County Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly luncheon on Wednesday, August 21 at the Vicksburg Convention Center. The keynote speaker for the luncheon will be Dr. Felecia Nave, who was recently named President of Alcorn State University.

Dr. Nave is the 20th President of Alcorn State University and made history by being the first female president of the institution. Dr. Nave serves as administrative oversight for Alcorn’s sprawling 1,700-acre Lorman campus and branch locations in Natchez and Vicksburg. Prior to her appointment as Alcorn’s president, Dr. Nave served as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for North Carolina Central University, she served as the university’s chief academic officer where she developed, implemented, and managed oversight for all academic degree programs at the university.

Economic Development Partnership Wins Statewide Mississippi Economic Development Award

I was honored to attend the MEDC luncheon and represent our City as we received this award. This is a testament to the results oriented economic development program our community is running under the leadership of the Economic Development Partnership. As I have said before, we are just getting started and we do not plan to slow down anytime soon.

The Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC) announced that the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership won the 2018 Community Economic Development Award (CEDA) on February 7, 2019 for its work to attract Unified Brands to Vicksburg, MS

Unified Brands announced in August of 2018 that it had selected Warren County to consolidate multiple operations across the country into one. The project will bring 425 new jobs to Warren County with an associated investment of over $9 million. The relocation represents the largest manufacturing job creation project in Warren County in the last 15 years.
The CEDA Awards program is a “Best Practices” program intended to recognize exceptional contributions of communities in the State of Mississippi for the following efforts: business retention & expansion, business recruitment, community development and community involvement.

Vicksburg, Miss. (Feb. 7, 2019) – Liquid fertilizer manufacturer Vicksburg Plant Food is expanding with plans to create 20 new jobs and invest $20 million at its Vicksburg, MS plant.

“Vicksburg has experienced significant economic growth in recent years, and Vicksburg Plant Food’s expansion continues that momentum. I commend the company for choosing to grow in the River City and bring new job opportunities to the people of Warren County,” Gov. Phil Bryant said.

PABLO DIAZ BECOMES THE FIRST PORT DIRECTOR IN VICKSBURG’S HISTORY TO UPHELD THE CERTIFICATION

The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership announced today that Pablo Diaz has received professional certification as an Inland Marine Port Executive (IMPE). The certification is issued by The International Association of Maritime and Port Professionals (IAMPE) in partnership with the Loeb-Sullivan Graduate School of International Business and Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy.

To obtain the certification, Diaz completed a minimum of 36 hours of coursework that included training on International Transportation systems, Worldwide Port Trends, Inland Water Systems, Port Governance and Administration, Marine Terminal Operations, and Safety, Security, and Emergency Planning among others.

ACADEMY IN VICKSBURG, MS

Vicksburg, Mississippi- August 28, 2018. – The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership and Hinds Community College (HCC) announced today that Vicksburg will soon have its own Coding Academy as part of the Mississippi Coding Academies.  The Coding Academies were started as a joint public/private initiative formed under the sponsorship of Innovate Mississippi and the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) to reduce the shortage of available software coding professionals in the state.  HCC, with support from Innovate and MDA, has taken the lead in the stand-up of the Vicksburg Academy.
According to a press release by the Mississippi Development Authority, Governor Phil Bryan said, “The Mississippi Coding Academies will help develop a well-trained workforce which not only meet but exceed, the expectations of today’s high-tech companies.” The academies offer post-secondary students an intensive 11-month computer science education program. Jackson and Columbus are two of the original cities that were part of the pilot program in 2017.
