PABLO DIAZ BECOMES THE FIRST PORT DIRECTOR IN VICKSBURG’S HISTORY TO UPHELD THE CERTIFICATION

The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership announced today that Pablo Diaz has received professional certification as an Inland Marine Port Executive (IMPE). The certification is issued by The International Association of Maritime and Port Professionals (IAMPE) in partnership with the Loeb-Sullivan Graduate School of International Business and Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy.

To obtain the certification, Diaz completed a minimum of 36 hours of coursework that included training on International Transportation systems, Worldwide Port Trends, Inland Water Systems, Port Governance and Administration, Marine Terminal Operations, and Safety, Security, and Emergency Planning among others.

LEADS THE WAY TO START CODING
ACADEMY IN VICKSBURG, MS

Vicksburg, Mississippi- August 28, 2018. – The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership and Hinds Community College (HCC) announced today that Vicksburg will soon have its own Coding Academy as part of the Mississippi Coding Academies.  The Coding Academies were started as a joint public/private initiative formed under the sponsorship of Innovate Mississippi and the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) to reduce the shortage of available software coding professionals in the state.  HCC, with support from Innovate and MDA, has taken the lead in the stand-up of the Vicksburg Academy.
According to a press release by the Mississippi Development Authority, Governor Phil Bryan said, “The Mississippi Coding Academies will help develop a well-trained workforce which not only meet but exceed, the expectations of today’s high-tech companies.” The academies offer post-secondary students an intensive 11-month computer science education program. Jackson and Columbus are two of the original cities that were part of the pilot program in 2017.

Vicksburg, Miss. (Aug. 24, 2018) – Commercial kitchen equipment manufacturer Unified Brands is investing $9.5 million and creating 425 jobs in Warren County, Miss. The announcement was made by Governor Phil Bryant at the former Simpson Duravent Building located on 88 Armory Road, at the CERES Industrial Park. The project represents the largest manufacturing job creation project announced in Warren County in more than 15 years.
“Mississippians are hard workers who take pride in a job well done, as evidenced by Unified Brands’ decision to grow its operations in our state and create hundreds of new jobs in Warren County. Vicksburg has enjoyed recent economic growth, and this exciting announcement continues that momentum,” Gov. Phil Bryant said.

ED PARTNERSHIP HOSTS MDA FOR VISION & FAMILIARIZATION TOUR OF VICKSBURG

Vicksburg, MS | August 13, 2018 – The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development
Partnership recently hosted the staff and executive team of the MDA (Mississippi Development
Authority) for a vision and familiarization tour of Vicksburg and Warren County. Senior members
of the MDA team included Mr. Mike McGreevy, Deputy Director of MDA, and Mr. Jamie Miller,
Deputy Director for Governmental Affairs and Chief Innovation Officer. Directors and project
managers from the Global Recruitment and Existing Industry teams were also in attendance
during the day and half of activities in Vicksburg. Representatives from Entergy Mississippi
Economic Development and the Greater Jackson Alliance were also part of the delegation.

During the twenty plus hours that the MDA team was in Vicksburg, they enjoyed an original
Vicksburg dinner at Anchuca, learned about the Strategic Plan developed by the Vicksburg
Warren Economic Development Partnership, visited historic homes, tourist attractions and
restaurants, and learned in detail about strategic assets that differentiate Warren County from
the pack in terms of economic development. The delegation spent half a day at ERDC and met

Vicksburg-Warren County members, city government, business leaders and interested residents got an overview of the strategic plan county economic development officials believe will be the key to helping bring more bu“This time, we’re going to take our message to the world; we’re going to tell the world who we are, and we’re going to change those wrong perceptions that they have about Vicksburg,” he said. “It doesn’t mean we are perfect, but we’re going to tell them who we are.

“We’re going to tell our own community who we are and we’re going to ask their help in shaping that negativity from us, and we’ll be focusing on the positives we can build on, so we can lead this community more than you ever imagine. Our imagination will have no limit.”

Discussing the area’s strengths, Melissa Medley, a principal with VisionFirst, said the area has one strength that is often overlooked.

Vicksburg Forest Products to Create 125 Jobs and Invest $6M in Vicksburg, MS

Jackson, Miss. (June 19, 2018) Vicksburg Forest Products is opening a lumber mill in Vicksburg, Miss. After significant upgrades and modifications are complete, the multi-million dollar corporate investment will create 125 jobs.

WOOD RE-MANUFACTURER TO CREATE 50 JOBS AND INVEST $2 MILLION DOLLARS IN VICKSBURG

Jackson, Miss. (May 1, 2018) – Wood manufacturing company Industrial Wood Products is locating several of its existing product lines and capabilities to Vicksburg, Miss. The project represents a corporate investment of more than $2 million and will create 50 jobs in the Vicksburg area. Industrial Wood Products has two existing locations in North Carolina and is acquiring and renovating an existing 120,000 sq. ft. privately-owned building located on Highway 61 South in Vicksburg where it will locate its industrial component manufacturing operations and a paint line. The new facility will include cut-to-length, resawing, ripping, notching and grading capabilities to services pallet and crate manufacturers.
